Shell's Liquid Sulfur Pipeline is a buried pipe-in-pipe system transporting liquid sulfur 42 km from the Shell Gas Plant at Caroline, Alberta to the railhead at Shantz. The liquid sulfur flows through the inner pipe, and is kept from solidifying by pumping hot water through the annulus at temperatures up to 135°C. Tensor provided services for all aspects of design, construction and maintenance .
A cooperative effort between Masdar and ADCO incorporating CO2 flue gas capture from Emirates Steel, initial compression and dehydration, dense phase transportation by pipeline to the BAB field, and facilities for downhole WAG injection. Tensor provided expert engineering assistance for all parts of the project from feasibility, through FEED, and detailed engineering.
The ACTL pipeline is 240 km long and carries dense phase liquid CO2 captured from the Sturgeon Refinery and the Nutrien Redwater fertilizer plant to enhanced oil recovery projects in central Alberta. Tensor designed and supervised the full-scale burst tests for the project, and specified high toughness pipe for the project to prevent bursts and fractures.
The Firebag Hotbit Pipeline is a buried insulated 24 inch pipeline operating at 140°C to keep the bitumen liquified while transporting it from Suncor's Firebag Plant in northern Alberta through muskeg terrain to the Oil Sands plant 50 km to the south. Tensor was involved in all phases of the project including initial design, construction, maintenance and repair
